Open to the Public

Before the official start of EE Global, on the morning of Sunday, December 11th, for one day only, the doors to the Exposition Hall were opened for an afternoon of product giveaways, educational seminars, and even a little entertainment for all ages, sponsored by Wal-Mart, Lockheed Martin, National Grid, and NYSERDA.

Public day attracted approximately 500 people from the Greater Washington, DC area. Families, students and others walked the aisles of the sold out expo floor to see the latest energy-efficient products and technologies and get their “burning” questions answered by experts in the field.

Members of the public were encouraged to attend one of the five educational seminars given throughout the day on subjects ranging from reducing home energy bills presented by the U.S. DOE, strategies for buying a new home versus old home by the U.S. EPA, becoming a carbon conscious consumer by the Center for a New American Dream, and a discussion of hybrid vehicles and efficient driving led by the National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium.

Al Ebron, Executive Director of National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium (NAFTC), also presented tips for efficient driving and information about hybrid vehicles in his presentation “Hybrid Vehicles and Efficient Driving“(50 KB PDF).

George Hawkins, director of the Washington, DC energy office and DC council member Mary Cheh even made guest appearances to share the District’s plan to reduce its carbon footprint.

The Maytag repairman, 94.7 the Globe DJ personality Cerphe and even the infamous and villainous Energy Hog made appearances and dozens of prizes including an Energy Star DVD player, a home energy audit from CMC Energy services, a Rinnai space heater and tankless water heater, a Honeywell programmable thermostat, a Whirlpool Cabrio washer & dryer pair, hundreds of compact florescent light bulbs, Ratatouille DVDs, and much more were raffled off during the five hour “world’s fair” on energy efficiency!
