Schneider Electric has joined the Department of Energy (DOE) and 70 other companies in signing the Save Energy Now® pledge, committing to a 25 percent reduction in energy intensity or more in 10 years.
As a charter member of the Save Energy Now LEADER Program, Schneider Electric is committed to more than just increasing energy efficiency — it has pledged to be a showcase of intelligent energy in its operations and to set the pace for others in the industrial sector.
At the launch of the program in December 2009, U.S. Secretary of Energy Dr. Steven Chu remarked that the companies who commit to energy efficiency not only generate significant energy and carbon savings, but also show the entire business community the profitable steps that can be taken to move us all toward a clean energy future.
“Working together with American manufacturers, we will leverage the potential of energy efficiency to create new jobs, make our economy more competitive and reduce carbon pollution,” Secretary Chu said.
The LEADER Program is a new component of the existing and successful Save Energy Now initiative. As a Save Energy Now LEADER, Schneider Electric partners with DOE to benchmark energy use, conduct energy assessments, implement energy savings initiatives in its operations and report on results.
A Legacy of Energy Savings
Although Schneider Electric signed the pledge at the close of 2009, reducing energy consumption is not a new commitment for the company. At the heart of our strategy is the simple and powerful idea that using natural resources more productively and efficiently is both profitable and better for the environment.
From 2004 through 2009, Schneider Electric’s North American operations sustained over $11 million in energy savings through the implementation of active energy efficiency solutions within 27 of its facilities in North America. These impressive results were realized though a four-step process focused on passive and active energy efficiency for sustained energy savings.
Schneider Electric walks the talk at its global headquarters in Paris, France. “The Hive” houses 1,700 employees and integrates the most advanced products and technologies in a single and simple architecture managed via one global software system. The building energy performance was reduced to 110 kwh/sqm/year, cutting energy consumption by three compared to the former headquarters.
