EE Global will conclude with four concurrent Intensive Learning Sessions (ILS) aimed at enhancing attendees’ overall forum experience. Each ILS, hosted by a highly-respected organization, will offer a two-hour deep dive into a subject that may be touched upon in our Executive Dialogue agenda but not fully explored in 75 minutes. Be sure to select one of the following opportunities when registering!
Sharing Global Experiences for Large-Scale Energy-Efficient Lighting Market Transformation Programs
Organized by the World Bank
As governments, businesses, environmental bodies and individuals struggle to combat climate change, more efficient use of energy is at the top of the list of action items, especially in developing and emerging market countries. Energy efficient lighting, replacing incandescent lamps with compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFLs), is at the core of demand side management.
In recent years, the World Bank has supported large-scale EE lighting programs in Uganda, Rwanda, Senegal, Morocco, Uruguay, Argentina, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Mexico, Mali, Ethiopia, and Burundi. Join representatives from the Bank and these countries to compare and contrast shared victories and unique challenges.
Energy 2030: Doubling U.S. Energy Productivity
Organized by the Alliance to Save Energy
Join members of the Alliance Commission on National Energy Efficiency Policy to learn more about the unanimous recommendations put forth for federal, state, and local governments as well as the private sector, to double energy productivity by 2030. The recommendations were selected based on an assessment of their potential impact, their political viability, and their implementability. Because energy productivity decisions are made by everyone, most of the recommendations cut across economic sectors.
The recommendations are organized under three overarching strategies:
1. Investment
2. Modernization
3. Education
1 billion m2: How do we jump-start net energy positive residential buildings in emerging markets?
Organized by Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) and the Global Buildings Performance Network (GBPN)
This Intensive Learning Session will outline the proposed “1 billion square meters” initiative spearheaded by the Global Buildings Performance Network (GBPN) and the Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP). This is a new effort to accelerate the uptake of net energy positive buildings in emerging markets.
Following a short presentation, a moderated round table discussion will seek feedback and support from confirmed key global energy efficiency stakeholders including:
-Peter Boelsterli, X6 (architectural practice in China)
-Peter Graham, CEO, GBPN
-Martin Hiller, DG, REEEP
-Gregory Leng, Director, RETScreen International
-Paul Savage, CEO, Nextek Power Systems
-Anthony Watanabe, Innovolve Canada
REEEP is a market catalyst for clean energy in developing countries and emerging markets. In this role, it acts as a funder, information provider and connector for up-scaling clean energy business models.
Policy Frameworks for Energy-Efficient Power Systems
Organized by the International Partnership for Energy Efficiency Cooperation (IPEEC) and the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM)
Managing the transition to clean, modern power systems will require ambitious policy and regulatory frameworks that promote demand side, as well a supply side, solutions. Significant work has been done at the national and sub-national levels to develop better policies to promote energy efficiency, but there have been few forums to highlight this work.
Speakers during this session will detail recent and ongoing efforts by both CEM and IPEEC to identify and promote innovative policies, in both developed and emerging economies. The session will conclude with a moderated discussion on ways to better promote energy efficiency globally.
The 21st Century Power Partnership – an initiative of CEM – works with governments on best practice policies to support demand side measures within the context of integrated power sector planning. IPEEC is an international platform that promotes energy efficiency among its member economies from all around the world.
