Hon. Jimena Bronfman

Jimena Bronfman was appointed Vice Minister of Energy of Chile in March 2010. She is an experienced lawyer whose areas of expertise include energy, natural resources, international finance, securities markets, foreign investment and taxation.
She has served as Chief Legal Counsel of Foreign Trade and International Exchange of the Central Bank of Chile and later as Chief Legal Counsel of the Foreign Investment Committee. She joined the Chilean law firm Guerrero, Olivos, Novoa y Errázuriz in 1987, where she was a partner for sixteen years. She is a member of the Chilean Bar Association, the Chilean American Chamber of Commerce, the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation (RMMLF) and the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN), among others. She is the founding Chairman of the Association of Chilean Jewish Lawyers and a member of the Board of Governors of the International Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists.
She also forms part of the body of arbitrators of the Centre of Mediation and Arbitration of the Santiago Chamber of Commerce and of the National Arbitration Centre.
She has also been a teacher in MBA and Diploma programs at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and the Universidad del Desarrollo in Santiago, Chile.

Hon. Miguel Angel Cámara Botía

Dr. Miguel Ángel Cámara Botía has been the Mayor of Murcia, Spain since 1995. He was a Member of the National Spanish Council of Water and the National Spanish Council of Environment from 1996 to 2003. He also was a member of the Spanish Delegation in the III European Conference of Sustainable Cities (Hannover, Germany, 2000) and in the United Nations Conference on Human Settlement-HABITAT (New York, USA, 2001). The Mayor is Chairman of the Federation of Councils for the Murcia Region since 1995 and member of the Federal Council of the Spanish Federation of Councils and Provinces of Spain since 1995 where he has held several positions: Chairman of the Environment and Ecology (1999-2003), Chairman of the Education Committee (2003-2007), Chairman of the Sports and Spare Time (since 2007). The Mayor is also President of ALEM, Local Energy and Climate Chance Agency of Murcia, created through the IEE (Intelligent Energy Europe) Programme. Since 2008, the Mayor has been Chairman of the EUROCITIES Mobility Forum, the network of the main European cities which brings together more than 130 cities in more than 30 countries.
Dr. Cámara graduated with a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Murcia. He also has a degree in Business Administration from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. He became tenured lecturer of Agricultural Chemistry at Murcia University in 1985.

Tony Clark

National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC)
Tony Clark is the first Vice President of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners, the immediate past Chairman of its Telecommunications Committee and the Commissioner of the North Dakota Public Service Commission since 2000. He has testified multiple times before committees of the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives on matters related to telecommunications and energy. Since joining the Commission, Tony has overseen regulatory proceedings that have facilitated hundreds of millions of dollars in new investment in North Dakota through expanded wind, coal and petroleum infrastructure. Prior to his election he was North Dakota’s Labor Commissioner, serving in the cabinet of former Gov. Ed Schafer. He is a former state legislator, representing District 44 (Fargo) in the state House from 1994-97. He holds bachelor’s degrees from North Dakota State University and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of North Dakota.

Christopher B. Curtis has over 15 years experience guiding the successful growth and strategy within global energy management specialist Schneider Electric. He has held various sales and marketing leadership positions, was president of Schneider Electric Canada for a “too short but effective” year and a half and was named president, Schneider Electric US in June 2006. Curtis was named president and CEO of Schneider Electric in North America in 2008, assuming responsibility for all N.A. operations in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. In 2009, Curtis assumed additional responsibilities to lead Schneider Electric’s global Buildings business as well as its Renewables Business. He also currently serves on the board of the National Electrical Manufacturers’ Association and the American Heart Association.

George David joined UTC’s Otis subsidiary in 1975 and became its President in 1986. David was elected UTC’s President in 1992 and Chief Executive Officer in 1994. In 1997, he was elected Chairman of the Board. He recently retired as Chairman of United Technologies Corporation (UTC). David received his B.A. from Harvard and M.B.A. from the University of Virginia. He is a board member of BP, a member of The Business Council, and Vice Chairman of the Peterson Institute for International Economics. He has chaired the boards of the Graduate Business School at the University of Virginia, the National Minority Supplier Development Council, the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council, the TransAtlantic Business Dialogue, and the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art. David was awarded the Order of Friendship from the Russian Federation in 1999, and in May 2002 France named him to its Legion of Honor.

Currently serving as senior vice president and global head of efficiency & sustainability at Siemens Industry, Inc. Building Technologies Division (SBT), Dixon leads all strategic global initiatives on building efficiency and sustainability including strategic planning, operations, product/solution development, program implementation, business development, and mergers and acquisitions. Bob is the first (and currently only) designated senior principle expert for the 39,000 employee Building Technologies division. Bob is a past president of the National Association of Energy Service Companies (NAESCO), and currently serves as industry first vice chair for the Alliance to Save Energy. He is the industry member on the Buildings and Appliances Task Force under the Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate, and leads SBT’s strategic global partnership with the Clinton Climate Initiatives. Bob earned his B.S. in mechanical engineering from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California, and is a graduate of the Minnesota Executive Program at the University of Minnesota.

Cal Dooley is the President and CEO of the American Chemistry Council (ACC), a position he began in September 2008. As ACC president, Dooley will continue to redefine and strengthen the chemistry industry by continuing member growth, advancing advocacy at the global, federal and state levels and keeping ACC the “gold standard” among trade associations. Prior to joining ACC, Mr. Dooley served as President and CEO of the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA). He took over leadership of GMA after serving as President and CEO of the Food Products Association (FPA), which merged with GMA in January 2007. Mr. Dooley represented the 20th District of California as a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1991 to 2004. Mr. Dooley was a founder of the New Democrat Coalition, an organization of centrist, pro-growth Members of Congress dedicated to finding bipartisan solutions to our nation’s problems.

Energy Efficiency Project Investment Company, Limited (EEPIC)
Mr. Dreessen is a global expert in financing end-use energy efficiency projects (EEPs) within existing industrial process and large commercial/institutional facilities. His specialized expertise to structure/arrange local debt and equity financing of EEPs in developing markets stems from his 30+ years experience of successfully developing or financing EEPs in over 24 countries. Creating leading-edge project financing options of EEPs for end-use facility owners gained him recognition as a global energy efficiency financing, with a reputation for creating market-based structures that were “firsts” in many developing countries. Since 2004, Mr. Dreessen has created new market-based, financing mechanisms and structures to fill EEP funding and technical gaps in China and Mexico where there is strong market demand, essentially acting as a project financing intermediary for stakeholders by aggregating EEPs to access both equity and local debt in China and in Mexico. Mr. Dreessen is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a B.B.A. in Accounting and a M.B.A. degree from Lamar University. Mr. Dreessen serves on the Board and in other capacities of the following nonprofit organizations: Alliance to Save Energy, U.S. National Association of Energy Services Companies (“NAESCO”) and Efficiency Valuation Organization.

Zia Eftekhar

Philips Professional Luminaires N.A.
Zia Eftekhar was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Philips Professional Luminaires North America, as of January 1, 2010. Eftekhar is a highly respected 40 year veteran of the lighting industry and currently CEO of the Philips Lightolier Group, the single largest business within Philips Professional Luminaires. Since 1992 he has been the president of Lightolier and a Director of The Genlyte Group, the publicly traded parent of Lightolier acquired by Philips in 2008. Eftekhar played a crucial role in the integration of the Genlyte businesses into Philips, and in his new role he will lead the drive to further grow Philips’ leadership position in professional lighting systems and solutions in North America. Under Eftekhar’s leadership, Philips Lightolier has evolved to reflect the needs of its customers. By introducing new business services such as the Energy Services Group, and meaningful technological innovations that reflect the demand for energy efficient lighting, Eftekhar has continued to keep Lightolier at the forefront of professional lighting solutions. It is a challenge he now welcomes on a larger scale. Eftekhar is Past Chairman of the American Lighting Association and is also presently active as a Board Member and advisor to a number of industry associations and educational institutions.

Jason Grumet

Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC)
Jason Grumet is Founder and President of the Bipartisan Policy Center. Throughout his career, Jason has worked at the intersection of policy and politics. In 2007, with the leadership of former U.S. Senate Majority Leaders Howard Baker, Tom Daschle, Bob Dole and George Mitchell, he founded the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) to develop and promote bipartisan solutions to the country’s most difficult public policy challenges. Currently, the BPC conducts projects in the areas of energy and climate change, national and homeland security, health care, science and transportation policy. Since 2001, Jason has directed the National Commission on Energy Policy (NCEP). NCEP, now a project of the BPC, has released a number of significant studies and continues to actively advocate for its policy recommendations in Congress and with the Administration. Most recently, NCEP worked with Congress on key aspects of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. Prior to joining the Commission, Jason worked for NESCAUM (Northeast States for Coordinated Air Use Management), a nonprofit association of air quality agencies in the Northeast.
Jason is a frequent witness at Congressional hearings and has made appearances on NBC News, CNN, MSNBC, The News Hour with Jim Lehrer, and National Public Radio. He has also been featured in the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, and Los Angeles Times, among other leading publications. In 2007 and 2008 Jason served, in a volunteer capacity, as Chair of the Energy and Environment Policy Group for the Obama for President campaign.
Jason received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brown University and his Juris Doctorate from Harvard University. He lives with his wife, Stephanie, and their three children in Washington, D.C.

H.E. Jonas Hafstrom

H.E. Jonas Hafstrom entered the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1979 when he began as Press Secretary to the Minister of Justice. He has served as First Secretary in Teheran and Washington before becoming the Head of Section in Stockholm. Ambassador Hafstrom worked for many years for then Prime Minister Carl Bildt, including in the capacity of the Foreign Policy Advisor. In 2000, he became Deputy Director-General for the Department for Consular Affairs and Civil Law.
Ambassador Hafstrom served as Ambassador of Sweden to the Kingdom of Thailand, Lao PDR, the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Union of Burma/Myanmar 2004-2007. He then became Ambassador of Sweden to the United States of America and presented his letter of credentials to the President of the United States of America on September 18, 2007.
Ambassador Hafstrom earned his Bachelor of Law from Lund University, Sweden.

Ambassador Richard Jones

Richard H. Jones became Deputy Executive Director of the International Energy Agency in October 2008. Ambassador Jones, a former American diplomat, served as the American Ambassador to Israel (2005-2008), Kuwait (2001-2004), Kazakhstan (1998-2001) and Lebanon (1996-1998). During these and earlier assignments he gained considerable experience in oil and gas as well as other energy, economic and environmental issues. Ambassador Jones has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Harvey Mudd College, and an MS and PhD in Business/Statistics from the University of Wisconsin. He and his wife Joan have four children.

Representative Edward J. Markey, a national leader on energy and the environment, chairs the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming and the Energy and Environment Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee. Since Speaker Pelosi appointed Rep. Markey chairman in 2007, the Select Committee has held more than 70 hearings and briefings and contributed to the advancement of smarter energy and climate policies, including the first increase in fuel economy standards in three decades, which Rep. Markey authored as well as played a central role in drafting the landmark Waxman-Markey “American Clean Energy and Security Act,” which was approved by the House of Representatives in June 2009. Rep. Markey has long been active on energy and environmental issues, reflecting his commitment to maintaining the quality of life and economic opportunity in New England and across America. Ed Markey was born in Malden, Massachusetts, on July 11, 1946. He attended Boston College (B.A., 1968) and Boston College Law School (J.D., 1972).

Dr. Ajay Mathur

Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Government of India
Ajay Mathur is Director General of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, and a member of the Prime Minister's Council on Climate Change. As Director General of BEE, Dr. Mathur coordinates the national energy efficiency programme, including the standards and labeling programme for equipment and appliances; the energy conservation building code; the industrial energy efficiency programme, and the DSM programmes in the buildings, lighting, and municipal sectors. Prior to joining BEE, Dr. Mathur has worked on energy research, financing, and implementation. He has headed the World Bank's Climate Change Team in Washington, DC; and the Energy Engineering Division of TERI in New Delhi; and has also been President of Suzlon Energy Limited. Dr. Mathur received his Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Roorkee, and PhD from the University of Illinois. He received the Outstanding Alumni Award of the University of Illinois in 2002. Dr. Mathur is the coauthor of three books, and has been a lead author of the IPCC.

Prior to her confirmation as assistant administrator for the Office of Air and Radiation at the U.S. EPA, Gina McCarthy served as the commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. In her 25 year career, she has worked at both the state and local levels on critical environmental issues, helped coordinate policies on economic growth, energy, transportation and the environment, and has extensive experience with the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, the nation’s first market-based, greenhouse cap-and-trade system. In her new post at the Office of Air and Radiation, Gina will be a leading advocate for win-win strategies to confront climate change and strengthen our green economy.

Senator Lisa Murkowski is the first Alaskan born Senator to serve the state and only the sixth United States Senator from Alaska. Since joining the Senate in 2002, Senator Murkowski has already made many strides on issues facing Alaskans. As she advocates for legislation on the Senate floor, her passion for improving the state of health care, education, energy, veterans’ affairs and infrastructure development in Alaska is unquestionable. Only the 33rd female to serve in the United States Senate since its founding in 1789, Senator Murkowski has assumed leadership roles quickly in the Senate. She is the senior Republican member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and also serves on the Senate Appropriations Committee. Senator Murkowski is a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee – the first Alaskan to serve on that panel – and also is a member of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. Senator Murkowski was elected by her fellow Republican senators to serve as the Vice Chair of the Senate Republican Conference for the 111th Congress, the fifth-highest party leadership position in the United States Senate. She earned a B.A. in economics from Georgetown University in 1980 and then returned to Juneau to work as a legislative aide, also becoming active in state Republican politics. In 1985 she graduated with a law degree from Willamette University and became a member of the Alaska Bar Association in 1987.

Prior to his appointment to NYSERDA in 2009, Francis J. Murray, Jr. served as Senior Advisor at the international environmental consulting firm Ecology and Environment, Inc., where he provided strategic policy and market development guidance on environmental and energy issues to a number of private sector and not-for-profit clients
From 1996 to 1997, Mr. Murray was policy advisor to the United States Secretary of Energy, assisting in the development of the Clinton Administration’s national energy policy. Mr. Murray served from 1992 to 1994 as the New York State Commissioner of Energy and as Chairman of the State Energy Planning Board, a multi-agency statutory board charged with the responsibility of developing a comprehensive, integrated energy plan for the State that integrated State energy, environmental and economic development policies.
Mr. Murray received his BS in Foreign Service from Georgetown University, and his JD from Georgetown University Law Center.

Hon. Dave Norris

City of Charlottesville, VA
Dave Norris was elected to Charlottesville City Council in 2006 on a platform promoting environmental sustainability, affordable housing, youth development and economic opportunity. He has been Mayor of the City since January of 2008. Dave authored a Clean Energy Resolution that passed unanimously at City Council in December 2007, which set in motion a series of initiatives that have brought the City statewide and even national attention for its efforts to promote energy conservation, energy efficiency and renewable energy. One of those initiatives is the new City-County Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP), which aims to retrofit thousands of local homes and businesses in the coming decade to reduce utility bills, slash carbon emissions and promote renewable energy. Dave was recently elected Vice Chair of the LEAP Board of Directors. In his "day job," Dave is the CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge.

Bruce Oreck is founding partner of the law firm Oreck, Crighton, Adams and Chase. Although originally trained as a specialist in Federal taxation, for over fifteen years Bruce’s practice focused exclusively on matters of state and local tax planning and litigation. In addition, Bruce serves a management role for the family owned Oreck Corporation, which manufactures the appropriately popular 8 pound Oreck vacuum endorsed by every member of the Firm. He is very active in environmental issues, having founded The Zero Carbon Initiative, which “seeks to implement better residential building practices and to teach both trades-persons and homeowners what is possible in energy efficiency as well as alternative and renewable energy applications.” Bruce obtained his Bachelor of Arts from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland in 1975. He then earned his law degree from Louisiana State University, graduating with the highest academic honors in 1978. Bruce attended New York University Law School, where he obtained his Master’s degree in tax law, also graduating with honors.

Dr. Joseph Oteng-Adjei

Dr. Joe Oteng-Adjei was educated at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Kumasi, Ghana from 1977-1981 where he obtained his BSc in Electrical engineering. He also holds a Masters Degree and a PhD in Power Systems from the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in Financial and Macro Economics from the Cranfield University, Bedford, England.
His working experience includes teaching at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology in Ghana and the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in the position of Lecturer and Senior Lecturer respectively. He has also held the position of Academic Registrar at GIMPA. He has practiced as a Planning Engineer with Acres international Ltd, Niagara Falls, Canada from 1990 to 1991 and as Director of Power for the Ministry of Energy, Ghana from 1991 where he implemented the most successful national electrification program in Africa. In February 2009 he was nominated and appointed Minister for Energy of the Republic of Ghana.
Dr. Oteng Adjei has performed several assignments in Ghana including the development of Electricity Market Rules and Regulations for the promotion of energy efficiency for the Energy Commission in 2007.
Dr. Oteng-Adjei has 15 publications on Energy to his credit. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electrical Engineers (USA) since 1987 and the Ghana Institution of Engineers from 1992. Dr. Oteng-Adjei was the Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the West African Gas Pipeline Project (WAGPP) for the year 2009.

In 2008, Senator Mark Pryor was elected to serve a second term in the U.S. Senate. Senator Pryor serves on six Senate committees, including the Senate Appropriations Committee, the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, the Subcommittee on Consumer Affairs, the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee, the Senate Rules Committee, and the Senate Ethics Committee. Pryor was first elected to public office in 1990 as a member of the Arkansas State House of Representatives. In 1998 he was elected Arkansas’ Attorney General. He received a B.A. in history and his law degree from the University of Arkansas and worked in private legal practice for over ten years. Senator Pryor is serving his fourth year as the honorary chair of the Alliance to Save Energy.

James Rogers became chairman, president and CEO of Duke Energy in 2007, having served as chairman and CEO of Cinergy since 1994 and PSI Energy since 1988. He chairs the Institute for Electric Efficiency and the Edison Foundation, and serves as co-chair of the National Action Plan for Energy Efficiency and the Alliance to Save Energy. He is a director of Cigna Corp. and Applied Materials Inc. He serves on the boards and Executive Committees of the Nuclear Energy Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. He is a board member of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations and Business Roundtable and he is a member of the Honorary Committee of the Joint U.S.-China Collaboration on Clean Energy. Newsweek named him to The Global Elite list, "The 50 Most Powerful People in the World in 2008.”

Andreas Schierenbeck is a chief executive with nearly 20 years of experience in guiding companies to market success and profitability. He currently serves as CEO, Building Automation – a $3 billion global business unit of Siemens, Building Technologies Division. Prior to joining Building Technologies, Mr. Schierenbeck held management positions in the Energy Automation as well as System Engineering businesses at Siemens and elsewhere. A graduate of Harvard Business School’s Executive Program, Mr. Schierenbeck also serves as Vice President of eu.bac – the European association of manufacturers and service suppliers in the field of building automation and controls, and is a Member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.

Szczupak has a master’s degree in automotive engineering from Cranfield University in the United Kingdom.

Hon. Cathy Zoi

Catherine Zoi was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 19, 2009 as Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE). In this capacity, she is responsible for leading the programs, staff, and policies of EERE, as well as engaging constituent groups in the efficiency and renewable energy sectors. Prior to joining the Administration, Ms. Zoi served as founding CEO of the Alliance for Climate Protection, established in January 2007 and chaired by former Vice President Al Gore. During her tenure with the Alliance, Ms. Zoi created the Repower America challenge, which set the goal of achieving 100% clean electricity within ten years. Ms. Zoi also launched the “We” Campaign—one of the most prominent climate solutions operations in the nation. Prior positions include Group Executive Director at the Bayard Group, Assistant Director General of the New South Wales (NSW) Environmental Protection Agency, founding CEO of the NSW Sustainable Energy Development Authority, Chief of Staff on Environmental Policy in the Clinton Administration, and a manager at the U.S. EPA where she pioneered the ENERGY STAR Program. Ms. Zoi earned a B.S. in geology from Duke University and an M.S. in engineering from Dartmouth College.
